Italy Unveiled

Milano - Milan

Explore the Fashion Capital of Italy: Milano

Highlights

Milano is the fashion capital of Italy. Luxury brands such as Versace, Gucci, Armani, and Prada, have their home in Milano. Milan is the privileged stage for the most important international events associated with the fashion world, where new styles and trends coexist alongside historic brands that have expanded their activity from clothing to bags, accessories, and perfumes, giving life to the renowned “made in Italy” worldwide.

The history of fashion in Milan started around the 1950s, after World War II.

During that time, some of the biggest designers would go to Milan to source the best materials and fabrics.
Not many people know that some of the most beautiful silks in the world are produced just a few kilometers away from Milan, in the area around Lake Como.
In 1951, the National Chamber of Italian Fashion was established to promote made in Italy fashion. since then Milan has become the fashion capital of Italy, hosting major events such as Milan Fashion Week, where many of the world’s top designers participate.

This event is comparable only to New York or Paris Fashion Weeks and is held twice a year, usually in the end of February-March and September-October.

There are plenty of fashion-related events throughout the year in Milan, and fashion in the city isn’t just restricted to the runways of the big shows. You can spot and buy the latest designs from the world’s top fashion designers in the fashion quadrilateral.

Il Quadrilatero della Moda ( Milan’s “fashion quadrilateral” ) consisting of Via Monte Napoleone, Via Manzoni, Via della Spiga, and Corso Venezia still reigns as the ultimate spot where top-notch fashion designers display their jaw-dropping creations.
Every year, thousands, if not millions, of tourists walk along these streets hoping to spot a famous person or score a good deal.(basically impossible lol)

If you’re looking to shop near Piazza Duomo, my personal recommendation is to head to Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, where you’ll find equally prestigious and important stores such as Prada, Dioe, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Armani and others

Milan isn’t just about fashion in the stores, but also in the streets. Milanese people love to dress well and be fashionable, so as you walk around the city, you’ll undoubtedly spot many impeccably dressed individuals.

Speaking of which, I remember my dad getting dressed up in a suit and tie just to go buy the newspaper on Sunday mornings.

In conclusion, Milan is a unique city and one of the world’s top destinations for the latest fashion. If you love fashion, you must visit Milan to immerse yourself in this world of elegance along the city’s streets, in the restaurants, and everywhere else, even if you’re just going for a cup of coffee.
